Stuart and Cherry Burns grew up in South Africa where they were saved as teenagers. In 1966, Stuart moved to the USA and served 3 years in the US Army, including 18 months in Vietnam. In 1969, he returned to South Africa to marry Cherry and start a family. Stuart worked in Cape Town as an accountant for the BP Oil Company and Cherry worked in a bank. Two of their children were born in Cape Town.
In 1977, the family moved to the USA and Stuart managed a lumber company in Roxboro, NC for about 8 years. Two more children were born, and today they have four grown children and three grandchildren. Stuart & Cherry were active in their local church in Roxboro. Both taught adult Sunday School classes. Stuart was a deacon and sang in the choir. Cherry and Stuart were very active in the local Gideon Camp, including witnessing and sharing the Gideon ministry in various churches in the central NC area.
CHRISTIAN MINISTRY TO MINERS
In 1984, God called Stuart & Cherry to devote their lives to reaching miners and their families with the Gospel. In 1987 they returned to South Africa to begin their ministry with Christian Ministry to Miners, alongside a godly African evangelist, Rev. Elijah Dube.
God truly blessed the Burns Family Ministry in South Africa and after four years, the outreach to miners had grown significantly to include roughly a dozen gold mines in the greater Johannesburg area. Today, about 300,000 miners live and work, mostly deep underground.
The Burns Family returned to the USA in 1991 while Pastor Elijah continued the ministry in South Africa on his own in the vast West Rand gold mining area.

INTERNATIONAL MINERS MISSION (IMM)
IMM began in 1906 in the UK, and today is established in about 15 countries on every continent. In 1992, God established a USA branch of IMM with help from the IMM UK, to reach miners in the Western Hemisphere. Stuart formed a board, and began investigating ministry needs to miners in North and South America, while continuing to be involved in the work of IMM in South Africa. Stuart’s ministry involves development and promotion.
Since 1992, Stuart established the IMM ministry in Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. Typically, Stuart visits these countries once a year, and South Africa about every 2 years.
Currently, IMM USA supports about 12 indigenous missionaries in Bolivia and Peru, and 7 IMM missionaries in South Africa. Their ministry involves evangelism to mining families, church work, Bible studies, and outreach to hundreds of children of mining families.
The ministry of IMM USA and its workers, through prayer, has made a significant impact for the Gospel in North and South America, and South Africa, for God’s glory.

The Burns Family have lived in Boone, NC for 20 years. Early on, God arranged a ‘divine appointment’ with Clarke Kennedy, President of Z-Mission. Stuart and Clarke have worked closely together ever since. Clarke has served as an IMM USA Board Member, and as an IMM Advisor. They pray together at every opportunity.
Today, Stuart is Z-Mission Treasurer and Secretary. He has become increasingly involved with the day to day activities of the mission, including frequent transferring of funds to countries such as Rwanda in Africa.
Stuart and Clarke are a great team, and they are currently looking at ways to work even more effectively together. God took two struggling individuals working on their own, made them a team, and much blessing has resulted.
Donations are needed for the ongoing BURNS FAMILY MINISTRY and for IMM workers in the various fields. Use the DONATE button here, or mail your sacrificial to gift to:

No ministry can be effective without ‘Seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and everything else will be added to you’. Matthew 6:33
Almost 10 years ago, Clarke introduced Stuart to a vibrant, highly effective prayer ministry called ‘The Appalachian House of Prayer’ or AppHop for short.
Today, Stuart and Clarke are actively involved in this vital prayer and intercession ministry that meets most days of the week in Boone, NC for two hours or more. Clarke and Stuart have led various ‘Prayer Sets’ over the years and see God answering prayer, for His glorify.
