In the rolling hills of rural Rwanda, a group of resilient women, who have been affected by the lasting scars of the Genocide, have found solace, empowerment, and a renewed sense of purpose through our organization. Formed with the intention of bridging the gap left by the absence of agricultural land, we have fostered a close-knit community, Women Environmental Activities at Dufatanye (WEAD), where women come together to create beautiful crafts such as woven baskets, cards, frames from banana fibers, and turning wasteinto eco-friendly materials (Recycling and upcycling). These creations not only provide economic independence but also offer a lifeline of hope and camaraderie.

Among the women who have found hope and healing through us, is MUKANGARAMBE Anne Marie, a 56-year-old mother of three who has faced her fair share of adversity. She lives withthe enduring physical and emotional scars of the Genocide, which often leaves her in ill health. Despite the challenges she faces, she has discovered a lifeline of support and income through Dufatanye's arts and crafts program.

For her daily work revolves around the intricate art of weaving baskets. This arts and craft has become a source of livelihood, allowing her to support her family and access medical treatment. The income generated from her craftwork has been a financial safety net, providing her with the means to seek medical attention and meet the needs of her household.

Beyond the economic benefits, we have played a crucial role in alleviating the loneliness that has haunted her and many women like her. The organization provides a sense of community,a place where women can come together, share their experiences, and find comfort in the understanding of others who have endured similar hardships.

Anne Marie's story is emblematic of the impact of Dufatanye. Before joining the organization,she often struggled to find joy in life due to her ongoing health issues. The sense of isolationweighed heavily on her spirit. But the organization has been a lifeline, offering her a sense of belonging and purpose. Her health has improved as she smiles more and finds solace in the company of her fellow women.

In a world that often isolates those who have endured hardship, Dufatanye shines as a light of hope. The organization has not only helped these women overcome economic challenges but has also nurtured their emotional well-being and given them a sense of belonging. Anne Marie's story is just one example of the many lives that have been touched and uplifted our organization.
